The Jovial King, Dragonrider of Balerion Solid brass, 21g 1.27" (3.2 cm) coin Broadstruck A Golden Dragon minted during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen. King Viserys’ generosity was legendary. The Red Keep became a place of song and splendor during his reign. In his midlife, Viserys’ girth nearly kept him from ascending the steps to the Iron Throne. The obverse features the king’s portrait. On the reverse is a tribute to the formidable Balerion the Black Dread. Viserys was a dragonrider who bonded with and rode Balerion until the dragon died of old age during the reign of Jaehaerys I. Viserys never bonded with another dragon after Balerion’s death.
