This is a completely handwoven Ikkat silk Saree that comes from Pochampalli, a small town in Andhra Pradesh that is famous for this style of weaving. Although this technique is believed to have originated in Indonesia, a few places in India particularly Pochampalli are well known for practicing this style. This fabric involves a 2 step process in the making. First, segments of the silk yarns are carefully resist dyed in several different dyes one after the other.
