The artist was walking down a sunny street the city, and came across a famous hot dog stand called "Mustard's Last Stand." She was attracted to the slivers of light and hard-edged shadows that broke over the walls. There were children ordering at the window. She noticed their colorful shoes and simplified the abstract shapes of the bicycles strewn throughout the scene.
