Wellington - Te Whanganui-a-Tara Within some dramatic hills surrounding one of the southern hemisphere’s largest deep water ports lays Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. The Māori say that Wellington Harbour was originally a lake where two great Taniwha – water monsters – named Ngake and Whātaitai used to live. One day they’ve battled so hard that the earth shook, and the landscape was forever changed. That was when the Wellington Harbour, Mount Victoria and the surrounding areas where created.
