Protection ~ Algiz Rune

The image side of this Rune shows two pairs of curving arcs, arranged to allow an opening at each side. The inner pair opens north -south, the outer opens east-west. This arrangement allows freedom of movement, light and air to enter towards the center, while also shielding direct access to the core.  The Symbol side of this piece shows the Algiz rune, which derives from the Proto-Germanic “z” sound and represents the   concept of “elk” or “protection.” Algiz is shaped like the spreading antlers of the elk, symbolizing the development of tools necessary to take care of one’s self. These efforts in protection reach toward the sky, embodying good intentions. The means for preservation of self are always available if necessary. Algiz belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark, represents external forces, or forces in the world which act upon you. These can be both beneficial forces and negative forces.
