So, I did this bikepacking race a few years ago. It's 2700+ miles, 200,000 feet of climbing, mostly off road, and self supported. No sag wagons, nobody handing you food, no massages after you finish for the day. It's day in and day out of riding for about 15 hours per day. You carry everything you need and resupply food in towns. That's bikepacking. After the couple of days on the Tour Divide, you are alone most of the day. It's hard physically and definitely hard mentally. The year I raced 40% of the starters dropped out. It rained...a lot. I had to walk for hours on end because of the sticky mud in Colorado.
