JOHNNY CASH
Edition of 27 Inspired by a rain-soaked Life magazine found in 2003 on Canal Street during a creative block, William Quigley created a 6 ft portrait of Johnny Cash, the infamous Man in Black. Cash enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at age 21, stationed in Germany, where he began performing for fellow servicemen. At 27, he released his first hit single, “Cry! Cry! Cry!” (1955)—the milestone inspiring this print’s limited edition of 27. Purchased by Johannes Kastner, global advertising executive of Red Bull, the work gained notoriety when Quigley’s 1999 NYC studio opening for his JFK and JFK Jr. portraits — on his birthday, April 29 — accidentally launched the iconic Red Bull & Grey Goose cocktail with Red Bull marketing head, art collector and dealer Arne Zimmerman. Hand-signed, artist-supervised, archival museum-quality print.Limited edition of 27.
