Ethiopia Abdo Aba Mecha

Abdo Aba Mecha is a member of the Tokuma group. They are collective of smallholder farmers in Western Ethiopia who grow, process and export their own coffee, rather than selling it to an exporter or to the Ethiopian Commodities Exchange (ECX). Just a few years ago, exporting independently wasn’t an option for smallholder farmers. However, recent changes in export regulations have made this possible. This allows each lot from Tokuma to be fully traceable back to the specific farm where it was cultivated. More importantly, it helps lower production costs and ensures that more money stays with the farmers who work so hard to bring this coffee to market. Six years ago, we began our partnership with the Tokuma group by purchasing from their inaugural member, Mensur Aba Hika. Since then, we've expanded to purchasing from several members, including Abdo Aba Mecha. Last season, we were blown away by the quality of Abdo's lot. This year is no different.
