Pink Fairy Duster is a delightful surprise. Native to the American Southwest, it's tough as nails, but blooms pink powder puffs against the most delicate, ferny leaves. In the hottest desert, it grows to a gnarly 4' shrub that blooms almost all year long. Hummingbirds love it. Hardy to 15*, Fairy Duster thrives in zones 8-11, loves full sun, sandy soil, and water once a week or once a month. A fine houseplant in cooler zones, it makes an excellent bonsai. Calliandra grows easily from seed. Start it in the ground or in a deep pot as it puts down a long taproot rather quickly. Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Sow seeds no more than twice their thickness in a well-draining soil. Seeds need warmth and light to germinate. . 10 seeds.
