I originally painted "Mercado" after my first trip to Italy. It was inspired by a woman working in a small market (mercado) in a small town in Southern Italy. She had a peaceful, faraway look until reality brought her back in the moment.Afterwards I wondered if she was remembering a fond memory or perhaps looking forward to something in the future. Back home, I took quite a bit of creative license in creating an abstract impression of her. This has been in my personal collection for years and only recently has the original been made available for sale (offered in my originals).
