Why do we love Giraffes? They are long legged walk like Royalty and have eyelashes every woman wants! The African Giraffe Species is called in Latin, camelopardalis, for Camel because it has a small hump and Leopard because of his spots. Neither one is true. There are 9 subspecies of Giraffe, but they are mostly known by the color of their patterns. Each pattern is like a fingerprint. What changes the patterns and names are where the Giraffes live and eat. The ones that look like oak leaves are from Kenya and are called Masai Giraffes. Rothchild or Uganda Giraffes have large brown splotches and separated by huge beige lines. The reticulated Giraffe is only found in Northern Kenya, it has a dark coat with spidery white lines.
