The current British Flag has a few other names it goes by, "The Union Flag" and the "Union Jack" it was enacted in 1801 to fly aboard British Ships. Today’s Flag started with the Kings Colors from 1707. These were the Crosses for the patron saints of the countries in the Union at the time. The Red Cross of Saint George it is edged in White, the patron Saint for England superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew for the Patron Saint of Scotland (White St Andrew's Cross) in 1801 the Flag was changed to include St Patrick's Cross, the patron Saint for Ireland. Wales at this time was part of the Union as of 1284 but neither Wales nor their patron Saint David was represented on the flag.
