Sloths come in two varieties and are divided by how many claws they have. There are Sloths with 2 Claws and Sloths with 3 claws. Both are very very slow animals. They live in the trees of the tropical forests of Central and South America. They are both so slow that algae grows on their fur. They may look like monkeys but are related to the armadillo and anteater.  The Two Clawed Sloth mostly hangs upside down and the 3 Clawed Sloth will normally sit in a tree branch at its fork. Scientist think they move slowly so not to get taken by predators like birds and big cats. They use their eyes for hunting which means a slow sloth is not seen and the algae makes them look like leaves. Once a week they come down to go to the bathroom. Now who wants to be interrupted doing this? The Sloth gets very nasty when attacked, they bite, hiss and claw with loud shrieks! I would too if I was interrupted going to the bathroom once a week!
