Wheel House Designs Woodpeckers on Grey Sock

Woodpeckers are those birds you hear tapping at a tree trunk when you really don't want to wake up early! The Downy Woodpecker is all over the USA. They like to hang out at homes, parks and love deciduous trees. The Pileated Woodpecker is the largest and they like to eat Carpenter Ants. They make rectangular holes which get nicely filled by other woodland creatures. These Woodpeckers like the Pacific Coast and Valley of California up to Canada then over to the East Coast down to Florida to the Southern States and stop at Texas. You look at their range map and go wow, they don't like the center at all, What gives? Next is the Golden-fronted Woodpecker, this one hangs out in Texas and Oklahoma in the USA but likes Mexico and Central America these areas are all year round. Now I am just guessing at some of these Woodpeckers. If I am wrong please let me know.
