This ancient art, which dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization (around 3000 BCE), originates from Kutch in Gujarat, Barmer in Rajasthan, India, and Sindh in Pakistan. The craft employs a resist printing technique with natural vegetable and mineral dyes, with indigo as the primary dye. Today, the finest Ajrakhs are still made using natural materials such as lemon, indigo, clay, dried pomegranate peels, camel and cow dung, kesu phool, sakun, alum, rusted iron, jaggery, and indigo.
