'At the beginning of the 19th century, the vines covered about 300 hectares, but everything almost disappeared after the phylloxera attack (aphids that attack the roots of the vines), then following the destruction of two World Wars, there were barely 40 hectares of vines in use. Today, the vineyards cover 255 hectares (630 acres), in the communes of Ampuis, Tupin Semons and Saint Cyr / Rhône, including 73 parcels. This appellation has a semi-continental climate, ie dry and hot in summer, with mild autumns and harsh winters, with regular rainfall the rest of the year.'
