The 1999 Piper-Heidsieck Brut Millésime 'Rare' (MAGNUM) is a prestigious cuvée crafted only in exceptional vintages. The "Rare" label originated in 1976 when an extreme heatwave inspired the creation of a unique blend. Since then, it has been produced in select years, with the brand rebranded as simply "Rare" in 2019. Sourced exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards, the blend consists of 70% Chardonnay (from Avize, Chouilly, Oger, Trépail, Villers-Marmery) and 30% Pinot Noir (from Ambonnay, Ludes, Verzy). The 1999 vintage faced early hail damage but matured well over a warm summer, with September rains not impacting the quality. Aged for 16 years on the lees, it has a dosage of 9.5 g/L, balancing freshness and complexity.
