2021 Henri Jouan Clos St. Denis Vieilles Vignes 750ml

Reviews: 95 points John Gilman, "I really like Philippe Jouan's example of Clos St. Denis, which reminds me a bit of the earliest versions of this grand cru that I drank from Domaine Georges Lignier from the decade of the late 1970s. The wine is not as elegant in personality as Domaine Dujac's version for instance, but it has a superb foundation of terroir and plenty of depth and complexity. The bouquet of the 2021 wafts from the glass in a mix of cherries, red plums, beetroot, bonfire, raw cocoa, pigeon, a touch of fresh herb tones and a deft framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and shows off excellent depth at the core, with fine focus, lovely soil signature and a long, ripely tannic and very promising finish.
