Smoky Pine
About Smoky Pine Smoky Pine also goes by the names Lapsang Souchong and Zhenshan Xiao Zhong. Lapsang Souchong is one of the historically famous Red teas (what westerners would know as Chinese Black teas), alongside Qimen, Assam, and Darjeeling. First popular among the British Royalty, Lapsang Souchong quickly became popular throughout the English upper class by 1662. The British were particularly drawn to Lapsang Souchong's smoky aroma. Drinking Experience You'll quickly realize why we named this tea Smoky Pine when you smell it. Lapsang Souchong (Zhenshan Xiao Zhong) has a piney smoke aroma, like a campfire. When you brew Smoky Pine properly, it should have a translucent red look. Your first sip should reveal a very heavy, piney smoke flavor. Behind the smoke, you'll pick up on more mellow flavors, including hints of longan, a Chinese fruit similar to lychee. Heavy, warming, and long lasting in flavor, there's a lot to love in our Lapsang Souchong.
