Golden Catalpa Tree
Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea' A bold accent in the landscape, Golden Catalpa is a unique medium-sized tree. The large heart shaped leaves are velvety and bright yellow with a lime-green tint by late summer. Blooming in mid-summer, pollinators are attracted to its large 8” panicles of fragrant 2” orchid-like white flowers with yellow stripes and purple inside. Bean-like persistent seed pods follow the spectacular floral display. A slower grower than the species, the dense globe-shaped crown has low branching and a short trunk. The bark is gray-brown, fissures, and flakes off for a rough texture. Adapts to a range of well-drained soil types.
