1687 PIERRE JURIEU. Rare Huguenot Work on Revelation Predicting the Coming of the Millennial Reign on Earth in 1689!
A very scarce work by Huguenot theologian and firebrand, Pierre Jurieu [1637-1713]. A contemporary of Isaac Newton, he was one of those suffering, five hundred thousand Protestants who were compelled to leave France by the persecuting action of Louis XIV in revoking the Edict of Nantes. Their sufferings under the Papal power turned their attention to the prophetic word, and in it they found support and consolation. Jurieu begins the present prophetic work with the sentence: "The afflicted Church seeks for consolation. Where can she find it but in the promises of God?" Further, it pleads with Jews, who are a primary audience of this work along with Christians, to recognize their Messiah, as the Kingdom they long for is materially at hand and about to begin on earth.
