A very scarce near miniature pocket-book for the afflicted by eminent Presbyterian and Princeton divine, James W[addell] Alexander. He would later be instrumental in the Philadelphia Revival of 1857 and author works on preaching, etc., that remain in print to this day [Banner of Truth Trust, etc.] Probably the first edition of this excellent little work. We don't recall ever handling it before. Alexander, James W. A Gift to the Afflicted, in the Express Words of Scripture: with an Introductory Address on the Uses of Chastisement. Princeton. Published by Moore Baker. 1835. 96pp. A very good copy, bound in cloth and retaining original lithographed cover label, with missing ffep. Very solid, with generally bright pages and light foxing.
