Star Anise

Star anise is a spice obtained from the star-shaped immature fruits of an Asian evergreen tree known scientifically as Illicium verum. Originating in southern China, Star Anise has a licorice-like flavor, although it is not related to the true anise plants native to the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East. Health benefit The oil produced from star anise contains thymol, terpineol, and anethole which can be used for treating cough and the flu. Anise also helps improve digestion, alleviate cramps, and reduce nausea.
