Marinara Sauce
This classic Marinara Sauce is a simple and flavorful tomato sauce that can be used on pizza, in pasta, or as the base to a more complex sauce. It is a pure, simple sauce with high quality tomatoes, flavorful garlic, and a delicious mix of herbs. Marinara is arguably the first tomato sauce. Legend has it that Italian cooks aboard the first Spanish ships, returning from the Americas with the first tomatoes known to Europe, invented this simple sauce. Indeed, it is easy to forget today that the tomato, a hallmark of classic Italian cooking, did not arrive in Europe until the discovery of the New World. Though little evidence exists to support this explanation, the first tomato sauce was recorded in a late 17th century cookbook.
