Marinara Blend

Our Marinara spice blend adds flavor and pizzazz to any tomato sauce. Arguably the first tomato sauce, marinara consists of tomatoes, garlic, and herbs. Legend has it that Italian cooks aboard the first Spanish ships, returning from the Americas with the first tomatoes known to Europe, invented this simple sauce. Indeed, it is easy to forget today that the tomato, a hallmark of classic Italian cooking, did not arrive in Europe until the discovery of the New World.  Though little evidence exists to support this explanation, the first tomato sauce was recorded in a late 17th century cookbook. Though this sauce was more similar to a modern salsa, it is nonethless a recognizable tomato sauce.
