Gus Nevros Fly Rod 8' 3/2 #6
A nice Gus Nevros fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #6 line. 5.5 ounces. Near mint condition, with just a few tiny reel foot marks on the seat and the start of some brassing to the inner guides. The grip is clean. Fairly fast action. Medium chestnut colored cane glued with resorcinol. Spiral node pattern. Excellent varnish. The main wraps are brown with orange and black edges fore and aft. The wraps on this rod appear to be coated with epoxy. There are two carbide strippers on the butt and black snake guides and tip tops. A build date of September 1988 and the previous owner's name are inked on the butt. The grip is 6" long and one in a western style profile with a hidden pocket cap. A signature of Gus's work was the 1/2" varnished front cork check of walnut, the grain aligned with the wrap flat and the walnut seat spacer and the 1/2" ball at the bottom of the uplocking screwlock. Gus once showed me a 6-sided broach he used on the reel seats to ensure alignment to the wrap
