Colonel Charles Askins, The African Hunt. Harrisburg, PA: The Stackpole Company, 1958. First edition. Signed and inscribed to Jim Fender “May all your lions carry black manes!” iv, 189 pages. Illustrated. Both book and dust jacket are very good. There is highlighting at a couple of places and, significantly, tipped in is a lengthy typed note from Fender telling how he came to know Askins and write about him, a dinner together at SHOT Show, and how Askins presented him with a special Winchester Model 88 with a full-length Mannlicher stock. Also tipped in is an original Stackpole bookmark, a short note to Jim Casada, and Fender’s business card. An association item that makes a desirable book truly special. $325.
