Wu Wei Zi (Pian) (Mi Zhi) - Schisandrae Fructus (Sliced and prepared with honey)
Description Schisandrae Fructus (Sliced and prepared with honey) 五味子(蜜製切片) P Premium This Wu Wei Zi is prepared in a fashion originally discussed in the first book dedicated to treatment of herbs, the "Lei Gong Pao Zhi Lun (Lei Gong's Discussion of Processing)." The herb is sliced to obviate the need to crush the herb (if un-crushed it will mostly just give forth its sour flavor and not the bitter, sweet, acrid or salty ones). Soaking it in honey water helps the herb to treat coughing and also increases its ability to supplement the center. This treatment also makes the herb more palatable. This method of treatment is recommended in many classical texts including the "Ben Cao Gang Mu (The Outline of Materia Medica)," the "Pao Zhi Da Fa (The Great Method of Processing)," the "Wai Ke Da Cheng (The Complete Book of External Medicine)," and the "Ben Cao Yan Yi (Extended Meaning of the Materia Medica)."
