WerBell Suppressor Patent Poster
This patented sound suppressor was developed by legendary weapons designer Mitchell Livingston WerBell III, best known as the founder of the SIONICS Corporation, which was later folded into the Military Armaments Corporation. WerBell also served during World War II as an OSS operative, where he served in China, Burma, and Indonesia on various insurgency campaigns behind enemy lines. No other designer since Hiram Maxim has been more influential in the development of firearms sound suppressors. WerBell's SIONICS Corporation worked closely with Gordon Ingram to develop the suppressed MAC-10 submachine gun, a hallmark of 1970s and 1980s action films. The weapon also found a home with several clandestine organizations as well, including US Army Special Forces. Now available is the illustration accompanying the original patent application for one of his suppressors, described here as a "Firearms Silencer with Helical Suppressor Elements" by inventor Mitch WerBell.
