-40°F or colder. Malus niedzwetzkyana seedling. Ripens in late August. Light green with crimson overlay. Introduced in 1949 by Carl A. Hansen in Brookings, South Dakota. A medium-sized apple with coarse, juicy, deep red flesh. An extremely tart flavor reminiscent of cranberries. Great for sauce and cider, but also great fresh! The tree is a natural semi-dwarf, reaching only about 12-16 feet in height. Pink blossoms in Spring give way to attractive reddish foliage in Summer. 3-5 foot trees.
