Monstrance Necklace

Yet our understanding (or lack thereof) does not change the fact: during the celebration of the Mass, "by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit," the bread and wine literally become Christ's flesh and blood (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1333). Though the appearance of bread and wine remain, the substance is permanently changed into our Savior.
