Zebra Longwing on Pentas

This beauty is the Florida State Butterfly and for good reason. They love the understory of our forests, preferring shade for laying their eggs. They also have such a characteristic easy flight that it appears that they could almost hover. You will see them flitting through bushes rather than over them, staying close to the forest floor. Their colors totally help them blend in with the broken light that reaches the understory.
