Steve Green, Greg Nelson I started writing this one while David and I were visiting our brother Randy, in his home, a short time before he passed into Jesus’ presence. A couple of days later, our dear friend, Bill Werner, passed away suddenly. Christmas cheer seemed out of place with such loss. Yet not really. The Christmas account in the Bible is filled with the harsh realities of life in this poor, fallen world, but also of the Savior who entered our darkness to bring us into His light. A glowing Christmas tree alightThe flicker of a flameFeel strangely hollow on this nightAs sorrow stakes its claimDeath has come to steal once moreAnd take life’s breath awayLet’s sit a while and grieve the wrongLamenting with a songWe knew this day would comeBut never thought it’d be this soonWe’re shaken by the sudden lossAnd numbed by the newsIn a moment life is goneOur frailty feels more nearAs Silent Night drifts soft and longIt mingles with our tearsYet even in the chill of winterHope will not
