WILD & CRAZY 11 lb Green and Red Spotted Hampton Butte Oregon Petrified Wood Bookends
One of the more amazing displays of color in petrified wood that we've cut in quite some time and in a mantle piece sized set of bookends too! This unbelievable spotted fossil wood is a hefty pair of bookends crafted from petrified wood dug at Oregon's famous Hampton Butte - home to the "Oregon Green" petrified wood casts. This log went far beyond green though with a stunning display of spotted color that reminds me a bit of ocean jasper! The large partial cross section of what was once a tree trunk is now accented with red spots scattered and laced through what was the center of the log. I can honestly say I've never seen a more beautiful or more striking petrified wood specimen from this location - it really does look like the colors of the Christmas season frozen in stone! The stone is a bit porous and has a lower degree of silica than some of the more gem like petrified wood we typically work on, but we still managed a fair polish on the display face of this unusual and stunni
