  Duane Allman was an American guitarist and bandleader who is widely considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time. He was born on November 20, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in a musical family. His father, Willis Allman, was a sergeant in the United States Army who had played guitar in a country band, and his mother, Geraldine, was a singer and pianist.Allman's family frequently moved during his childhood, and he attended a number of different schools before settling in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he formed his first band, the Allman Joys, with his younger brother, Gregg.
