Botanical Name - Gaultheria fragrantissima Other Names - Eastern Teaberry Origin - India Flavor Profile - Refreshing and minty. Pairs well with mild-flavored herbs, such as chamomile. Culinary Usages - Use in tea blends.  Cosmetic Usages - Wintergreen extracts and infusions are added to soaps and lotions.  Aromatic Usages - Add the dried herb to potpourri mixtures Wintergreen leaf provides the fresh, minty flavoring for mouthwash, toothpaste, chewing gum and hard candies. Wintergreen leaf can be infused in a carrier oil for use in skin salves, balms, lotions and cream.  The herb is also very popular in tea blends, a practice that started with early Americans when true tea from Camellia sinensis was often difficult to obtain.
