I just love the colors in Polychrome Jasper, and these stones are a beautiful mix of and steely greys, tan, and rust orange, brown and white. These earrings have french hook silver plated hypoallergenic earring wires.  Polychrome Jasper is a type of chalcedony stone that develops in massive formations.  It is also known as Desert Jasper, a variety of Jasper recently discovered in Madagascar. In 2008 while exploring for more deposits of the highly desired Ocean Jasper, the first deposit of Polychrome was accidentally discovered. Since then, two additional deposits have been found throughout the island.  Interesting to note is that all material must be hand dug due to the difficult terrain and conditions. Polychrome Jasper only forms in huge masses and got it’s original name (Desert Jasper) from its distinct shades of brown, red, and tan.
