This Western US native flowering perennial has thin, erect stems and narrow, long pointed leaves.  Drought tolerant too, Narrow-leaved Milkweed is a specific Monarch Butterfly food and habitat plant. This is the only type of plant on which the Monarch Butterfly eggs are laid and the colorful caterpillars (larvae) will feed. Each caterpillar will eventually change (via metamorphosis) into a gorgeous, iridescent green, jewel-like chrysalis that's flecked with golden speckles and later, a new Monarch Butterfly will emerge from the chrysalis. It's a fascinating process and with drastic declines in the Monarch Butterfly population you will be helping the species survive. So plant some Narrow-Leaved Milkweed seeds today and enjoy the show! Another common name for this species is "Mexican whorled milkweed". Available in single packets and as bulk wildflower seeds.
