Corneille, was a Dutch painter and graphic artist who radicalized the conservative Dutch art world in the early 1950s. He was a co-founder of CoBrA, a post-war Expressionist European movement, along with Karel Appel and Constant. Corneille studied at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, but is generally considered a self-trained painter. His art is described as imaginative and poetic. It characterized by a bold use of color.
