Courageous 勇敢 Necklace

A necklace with a vertical pendant that is a loose cursive calligraphy script version of 勇敢, or yong gam, which means courageous in Chinese. Inspired by the ancient glyph, or seal script version of 勇敢, and designed as cursive script, which allows for artistic license and prioritizes flow and composition over rigid or recognizable form. The Courageous 勇敢 Necklace celebrates the designer's grandmother's 100th birthday, and is based on a conversation in which she shared the desire to transmute fear into courage, which drove her to immigrate to America in the mid-1900s, raise her family and become a business owner.
