Trench Coat, Wood Sculpture, Rene Megroz, 1998

Swiss-born California-based artist Rene Megroz (1942) is known for detailed wood sculptures of clothing, and among them perhaps best known is her trench coat. A similar trench from the same series, made in 1997, is held in the Smithsonian collection. The coat is perfectly life-sized and hangs from a woven strap at the collar - ideally from a hook you'd hang your real coat on. Signed and dated on the reverse. A few nearly imperceptible signs of wear including one small scratch at the shoulder, and a light ding on the other shoulder. 45"l x 15"w
