Product Information: Amino-Iron 100t Amino-Iron, provided by Douglas Laboratories®, is a patented, nutritionally functional iron amino acid chelate (iron bis-glycinate) with documented high bioavailability, excellent tolerability, and low toxicity. Each 18 mg tablet of Amino-Iron supplies 100% of the daily requirement (US RDA) of iron for adults and children 4 or more years of age. FUNCTIONS Iron accomplishes its major function of oxygen transport as a component of two different transport molecules: hemoglobin in red blood cells and myoglobin in muscle. As a cofactor for a large number of enzymes and enzyme systems, iron is essential for energy metabolism. Iron is the cofactor of most of the enzymes of the Krebs cycle, and it is an electron carrier in the cytochromes. Healthy subjects with adequate iron status absorb between 5 and 10 % of dietary iron from foods. Iron absorption is regulated by the body, increasing during iron deficiency.
