Gentian Root, Organic

Gentian has a strong, bitter flavor and has had a long life as a medicinal herb. It is the main ingredient of Moxie Nerve Food - a beverage patented in the 1880s as a cure all that did not rely on drugs or alcohol. It was later rebranded as a type of soda, like a more intense root beer. Moxie Nerve Food became a popular drink in the history of New England, even becoming Main's official soft drink in 2005.  Gentian is also great for making your own bitters, like Angostura, liqueurs or fortified wines.  Use with caution in persons with gastrointestinal irritation.
