Monterey Jazz Festival 2006: Take Five

Digital Painting: Take Five in Blue is a Suzka tribute to Dave Brubeck.   DIGITAL CREATION:  It was 2006 at Monterey’s Jazz Festival, my 14th as stage designer, the festivals 49th. I met Dave Brubeck a number of times but that year, I left backstage and sat outside in the arena to listen to Brubeck’s jazz opera ‘Cannery Row Suite’. I simply loved it. It was the last set on Sunday with barely a sliver of a moon in the sky. Nobody moved until the last note was played. I especially love the smell of paint and the thick milky touch of it. More than often, I have paint goop under and around my fingernails and to this day, I take great pride in paint droppings on my cloths. For me wet paint is so undisciplined, wild and yummy. There's a delicious substance to it all
