Salix alba .5 oz White willow bark has traditionally been most commonly used for headaches, back pain, arthritis, and other types of mild to moderate pain. Salicin, the active ingredient in white willow bark, is converted into salicylic acid in the body. Salicylic acid is what provides the pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. This is the same mechanism by which aspirin works.  It may help reduce inflammation associated with conditions like arthritis. To prepare as tea: Bring water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan. Place 1-2 tsp. dried white willow bark in a mug or teapot. Pour the boiling water over the bark. Let the tea steep for 10-15 minutes. You can cover the mug or teapot to keep the heat in. Strain the tea to remove the bark.  You can add honey or lemon to taste.   The information presented here is for educational purposes only.
