American persimmon is a woody, deciduous tree native to the central and eastern United States. They are generally 30 to 60 feet high and 20 to 30 feet wide. Known for its edible, sweet-tasting fruit, which ripens in the fall and is used in jams, desserts, and other culinary applications.  The name persimmon comes from 'putchamin', a phonetic rendering of the name used by the Algonquin tribe of the American Indians. These are vigorous seedlings grown from the best American persimmons sourced from all-cultivar orchards. Persimmon seedlings come in male and female and a range of intersex combinations. It is recommended to plant at least 3 seedling trees in order to get some productive female fruiting trees in the mix.
