Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Red Label
Tom and Deb Mortimer are brave souls. Back in the mid-1990's they bought a piece of forested land high up in the Chehalem Mountains, they cleared it, and they began the tedious process of planting vines on it. Today, the Le Cadeau vineyard is known as one of the rockiest in Oregon, and these rocky soil stress the vines and lead to very compelling wines. Le Cadeau's Red Label Pinot Noir is crafted from 100% estate-grown fruit, and it allows the Mortimers and their winemakers Jim Sanders and Steve Ryan to select barrels from any block of the vineyard and blend into a single estate cuvee. Boasting wonderful concentration, this tastes of ripe cherry, raspberry, exotic spices, and just a whiff of smoke (from oak). Juicy and plush on the palate, this possesses great acidity and fine tannin that suggests this will drink well now and over the next 10 years. Just 295 cases produced.
