Matthews Winery Blackboard Red Wine

The 2019 Blackboard Red Wine was crafted from several vineyards across two AVAs in Washington State: Royal Slope (51%) and Columbia Valley (49%). Farmed using sustainable practices, the vines were hand-harvested in the early fall mornings of 2019. Upon arrival at the winery, each cluster was hand-sorted and destemmed. The wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, with three months on oak (25% new French oak). Beautiful notes of currants, spice, raspberry jam, strawberry, and pureed plum. Hints of vanilla bean, cocoa powder, and macerated berries carry the palate. A darker fruit wine with soft tannins and surprising complexity. A great window into a warm vintage here in Washington State.
