American conductor (1861-1933), violinist, and composer, who formed the Los Angeles Women's Orchestra in 1893 and the Los Angeles Symphony in 1897. Fine autograph letter signed by him, dated in Los Angeles, December 18, 1900, to the Italian violinist Achille Simonetti (1857-1928): “…Since I returned to America over four years ago, I have been doing more in the way of conducting and seem to have found that my forte lies more in that direction than in violin playing alone. (…) As soon as I arrived here from London my old position as chef d’orchestre in the principal theatre in this city, was offered to me, and I have kept it ever since…”. Size is 8.1 x 10.6 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), with letterhead of Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, creases, some dirt at the top, folds, in overall very good condition.
