This collection of nine pieces is a symbolic completion, honoring balance and timelessness as it mirrors the symbolism of the number nine. In Chinese, the number nine is pronounced “jiu,” which also means “long-lasting.” As the highest single digit, it represents the highest level of mortal happiness, longevity, and good luck. One digit away from the representation of the higher energy, this collection of nine expressive works uses red hues to convey the outpouring of emotion and expressions before a part of someone dies in order for them to be born anew. “Used to never fear” is a glimpse into the past, to a person’s childhood, where one lived with no consequences, no anticipation, and no fear. In this abstract work, AOTH crystalizes the heart-wrenching realities that can sometimes accompany getting older, when sometimes our curiosity and sense of freedom is taken away from us as we live in fear of others’ perception.
